We all know the life cycle of frogs, so we won’t get into details here. Just a quick refreshment: the life cycle of a frog consists of three stages: egg, larva and adult. As the frog grows, it moves through these stages in the process of metamorphosis.
The larvae of tailless amphibians (Anura), tadpoles, have a globular body and feed on algae and other plants, thus have a long, coiled gut for digesting plant food. Adult animals lose the tail, it breaks down and absorbs – metabolises during metamorphosis (unlike other amphibians which keep their tails throughout the adult life). The adults feed on insects and thus have a short gut for digesting protein food.
