Ingredients:
- dates (medjool work best, but all varieties are good)
- hazelnuts
- pumpkin seeds
- sunflower seeds
- sesame seeds
- coconut flakes
Basically, all you need are dates and some nuts and/or seeds. Above I listed my favourite combination, but you can use which ever combination you like. Some additional choices:
- cashew nuts
- almonds
- wallnuts
- linseeds
- chia seeds
- raw cacao
- coconut water
- dried fruits
Process:
grind or blend it all together and it’s done! You can also soak the dates and seeds first, if you or your blender would prefer it.
Here’s the thing – so far I haven’t managed to make an actual solid bar, all I get is a tasty sticky mass. I tried everything: adding coconut oil, dehydrating, freezing and all of the above in different combinations. I always ended up puting the mass in jars. One day it hit me – this IS my own Livity »bar«, it only has a different structure, but is just as, or even more, delicious.
This also makes adding coconut water possible to make it more »juicy«, it’s in a jar anyway. 😉
Also, Livity bars, as much as we love them, are too pricy, let me sum things up for you:
- Livity bar (30 g): 1,59 €
- hazelnuts (250 g): 2,59 €
- dates (200 g): 1,39 €
- seed mix (pumpkin, sesame, hemp, linseeds) (200 g): 0,99 €
- coconut flakes (250 g): 0,99 €
To sum up – cost per 1 kg:
- Livity bar: 53 €;
- home made version with the listed ingredients: 6,62 €;
- 30 g of the home made bar: 0,19 €.
I fit up to 150 g of the mass in the smallest jars I own. I like to pack a jar for work lunch along with my mono meal in case I need extra sugar and fats. About half of it fuels me for the rest of the work day.
Do you have any advice for making solid raw bars? You’re very welcome to share!
