DIY cotton pads

Take a piece of fabric, best if it’s 100 % cotton, no elasthane or other materials. Just recycle a shirt or maybe bedsheets that you’ve worn out and don’t intend to use for what it’s originally meant for anymore.

Cut out the shape you want, mine are circle, but you can go out of the box and make them rectangular or star-shaped, whatever, don’t (ever) limit yourself. 🙂

Put two or three pieces together. Sew them together at the edges. For this step it’s much more effective if you own and can handle a sewing machine. But you can also do that by hand. I wouldn’t recommend embroydering as the stitches would be too rough on the skin while cleaning your face.

I use them almost every day, as I use mascara almost every day. After using them for a while they do get permanently stayned, even when washing at 95°C. It’s not a problem though, they’re clean. Wash them in a washing sack to avoid them getting stuck in the washing maschine as they are very small. After a longer while, though, the pads do get so damaged from all the usage and washing that they need to be removed. But simple enough – just replace them with new ones! In any shape and color you desire.

This solution is very environmentally friendly. Think of the number of cotton pads you use daily or weekly. It’s the packaging, energy and water that goes into producing them and us supporting that. And think how much less waste you make this way. Because we love our home – nature.

This is a great gift idea. Put the pads in a glass container, could be a cute jam jar and decorate it – or not. The whole thing is so cute! I got the ones on the photos from my mom and I love them.
