First of all, as was emphasized many time before, we don’t take anything for granted here. Starting with our health, our environment, the people in our life and our home.
But, as it happens in daily life, we may forget the important things momentarily.
Right at the proper start of the summer I broke my fifth ossa metatarsi. Which, quite obvious, is a very important and loaded bone.
This injury took my summer, all the plans, and there were many, and immobilised me to my home for 2 months. As if life hadn’t been hard enough the year before, I had to process pain (physical and mental), mental questions and isolation all over again. Going through such process one has nothing but time to think things through and do a reality check of one’s life.
Here’s what I learned (some may be a bit trivial, others on repeat, but conclusions they are):
- nothing is to be taken for granted; health, the fact we can move around, our home, our family, our friends.
- The fact that we can walk is gift, be grateful for it every day.
- There are only so much books to read and TV to watch before it’s too much. When doing the named activities, not by choice, but the only thing that remains, where you can choose from what to do.
- You can lose all will and motivation to read books, even if you’re a bookworm. Even your favourite books can lose their appeal.
- Being aware that loosing the will is not a good thing, you may look to your role models and ask yourself what they would do in such situations (mine is mostly Lara Croft – link and some other women, depends on the situation). You just may get some good answers.
- One can be tired even from doing pretty much nothing.
- All of the house chores and errands that seemed redundant before suddenly become so easy in case you have 2 useful legs – you just go and do them. Never again will I complain about chores and errands – as long as I am perfectly able to do them, I will complete them all happily.
- You feel like a superhuman being able to do all the work needed without having to think about how you’re going to tackle with it.
- Having people that help you in situations in need is worth more than anything. More than anything.
Bored? You have your 2 legs, go! Go out, do sports, meet your people, run errands, go take photos, etc. The possibilities are endless. There’s no one stopping you, but you.
This one is for my mother
