One year of practicing Wim Hof method and how it has changed my life

This is continuation of the post: 6 months of practicing Wim Hof method.

To be sincere, not much has changed since then. I was expecting more and stronger improvements, but there were improvements nonetheless and I’m happy with them. I expect persistence will pay off in a few years, if not sooner.

I am much healthier in general since the start of practicing this method.

I am taking on more challenging tasks within the method:

  • regular runs with cold exposure (this means running in cold temperatures, but with less layers of clothing than one would usually wear in such conditions),
  • also practicing more regular cold exposure, meaning I go for occasional dips in water bodies I encounter. I just kneel in, so I am neck deep for the same amount of minutes as the temperature of the water is (meaning 5 °C = 5 min). I don’t yet dare to swim in water colder than 10 °C, this is my next challenge.

Improvements:

  • my saturation has not dropped under 90 % from the first day I started practicing, apart from one occasion when I was ill.
  • I can withstand colder showers of temperature about 15 °C for about 3 minutes. I can now take, without hesitation or feeling cold or uncomfortable, cold baths in 5 °C (haven’t encountered any natural bodies of water below that temperature so far).
  • I can hold my breath in retention for over 3 minutes on a daily basis.
  • My body is electrified with energy every day. I have great amounts of energy which I invest into work, art, sports activities and socialising.
  • From the first practice on I have experienced very little pain during my periods (while before I had very painful cramps for 3 days at a time, due to endometriosis, I suspect) – now it’s just some mild uncomfortable moments, rarely any pain.
  • My constantly irritated and allergy prone skin has calmed down. Some occasional eczema still occurs in tiny areas, but that’s it. Nothing compared to what I had happening before.
  • More discipline – in general, for work, sports and daily life.
  • Lost some body fat – due to discipline and mindset the method brings with it – which wasn’t just a consequence, it was also my intention.
  • It improved the health of my family members – they have decreased their autoimmune deseases’ symptoms to a very low level. This point makes me the happiest.

Wim Hof has changed and is changing the world into a better place. Grateful.

This river is always cold. This swimming area is just a few km from the river’s source. In summer it has up to 17 °C, in other months between 4 and 8 °C.
